Infomercial pitchman Kevin Trudeau has been charged with contempt of court after he had his fans flooded Judge Robert Gettleman’s email account. On Thursday, Judge Gettleman gave Trudeau less than three hours to appear in his federal courtroom following the email attack. The emails continued to come through, interrupting the hearing even while the Judge furiously lectured Trudeau and his attorneys.

The whole incident started with a civil lawsuit that was brought against Trudeau by the Federal Trade Commission claiming that Trudeau uses deceptive practices in his advertising and to sell his book, ‘The Weight Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About’. Gettleman presided over the case and ordered Trudeau to pay $37 million in fines.

On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, Trudeau used his website to urge his supporters to contact Gettleman to convince the judge that he is not a ’snake-oil salesman’. He urged his readers to contact the judge and let him know how he had improved their lives. The plan obviously backfired and infuriated Judge Gettleman.

Now, Kevin Trudeau has used his website to apologize to the judge and to ask his supporters to quit emailing him and the court.

The contempt charge against the infomercial pitchman could result in jail time. Judge Gettleman stated he did not want to act with haste, as Trudeau has done, and will impose a sentence next week.
