In a sensation murder trial out of Mobile, Alabama, Anthony Hopkins, a traveling pastor, has been found guilty on all counts against him in the freezer murder trial.

Hopkins, 39-years-old, had admitting to burying and then digging up his wife before putting her body in a freezer in their home, allegedly to ‘preserve the evidence’ for when he might decide to report her missing. Forensic experts estimate she died in December 2004, shortly after giving birth to the couple’s youngest child. The cause of death was listed as ‘homicidal violence’. She wasn’t ever reported missing and was only found when her 19-year-old went to the police and led them to her mother’s body in the freezer.

The 19-year-old daughter also told police that her step-father had been molesting her since she was 11-years-old and that she had given birth to his baby. Her mother, Arletha Hopkins would have been 36-years-old when she died.

Hopkins claimed that he came home and found his wife already dead on the floor of their Rylands Street home. He said that he panicked and had his step-daughter help him bury her in a shed behind a church in Jackson, Alabama. He later went and dug her body up and put it in a freezer because he ‘didn’t want her stinking’. During his testimony, he seemed to imply that his step-daughter might have killed her, stating she didn’t show any emotion when she saw him attempting to give Arletha CPR.

He admitted to taking Arletha’s clothes off and wrapping her in a bed sheet and soliciting his step-daughter’s help in burying her. He also admitted that he had sexual relations with his step-daughter, but denied he had raped her. He claimed his step-daughter initiated sex with him and that he gave into the temptation.

Hopkins claimed that he didn’t come forward about finding his wife dead because he was afraid he’d go to jail since she had died in his house. He was arrested on July 28, 2008 while he was preaching at Inspirational Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Jackson, Alabama.

Anthony Hopkins has been found guilty in the freezer murder trial. He was found guilty on all counts including murder, rape, sodomy, sex abuse and incest. He is scheduled for sentencing on May 6, 2010 at 9 am.
