A lengthy court battle over a seven (7) foot tall metal cross, erected as a war memorial in 1934, was resolved about two weeks ago when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the cross could remain where it stood.
In an act of cowardly vandalism, the cross was ripped down, stolen and likely hidden or destroyed late Sunday night or early Monday morning of this week.

Mojave Desert Cross Stolen, Vandal’s Defy Supreme Court Ruling (Video)

The Mojave Desert Cross, better known as a war memorial, came under attack by a former park service employee about a decade ago.

The employee decided a cross as a memorial violated the constitutional separation of church and state rules. With the backing of the ACLU, the case finally reached the Supreme Court and on April 28th, 2010 in a 5-4 decision ruled the cross / war memorial could remain.

This was obviously too much of a loss for the critters opposed to all things Christian, so someone, or several someone’s took it upon themselves to desecrate what so many revere–a harmless cross.

Plywood has been used to cover the Mojave cross since the whole debacle started years ago, but that wasn’t good enough for the cowards; they removed the plywood over the weekend. The maintenance crew that was sent to replace the cover discovered that the cross was missing.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars erected a wooden cross in 1934. The metal cross was placed on the rock late in the ’90’s by the war memorial’s caretakers, Wanda and Henry Sandoz. The cross was intended to honor those brave soldiers of World War 1.

There is tremendous, nationwide outrage over this cowardly act of vandalism.

“This is an outrage, akin to desecrating people’s graves,” said Kelly Shackelford, president of the Liberty Institute, which represents the caretakers of the Mojave Desert War Memorial. “It’s a disgraceful attack on the selfless sacrifice of our veterans. We will not rest until this memorial is re-installed.”

There is mild speculation that the thieves just wanted scrap metal, but 99.9% of everyone doesn’t believe that. That’s just an opinion, folks..no real stats, just my take on this childish, senseless act after reading comments all day.

For those not aware, the cross is on private land, NOT federal, so save that excuse about church and state and all the other whiny rhetoric that heathens use when they are traumatized by a glimpse of anything Holy, Sacred or Christian.

Whoever the cowardly miscreants are, they have riled the wrong people this time.

“The American Legion expects whoever is responsible for this vile act to be brought to justice,” said Clarence Hill, the group’s national commander. “While the memorial has been attacked, the fight will continue to ensure that veterans memorials will remain sacrosanct.”

“To think anyone can rationalize the desecration of a war memorial is sickening, and for them to believe they won’t be apprehended is very na├»ve,” said VFW National Commander Thomas J. Tradewell Sr.

The vandals have made this personal for so many. Liberty Institute is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this heinous act of cruelty. Unconfirmed reports are saying the amount is $35,000. I have a feeling this will rise, because we want you caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

For the record, we accept that not everyone is religious, that atheists and agnostics along with devil worshipers walk in our midst. But did y’all know that a religious symbol will not harm you? You won’t melt, you won’t turn into a pillar of salt…nothing bad will happen to you. Why do you continuously attack us? Because you can?

Do any of you realize that you desecrate the memory and the service of those that fought for your right to behave like moonbats? There are no atheists in foxholes–trust me on that.

Why can’t you be grateful, humbled even, that these brave men and women are fighting for you, too?

Frankly, it sickens me that our Military fights for your rights along with mine. Why do you not want those of us that are filled with gratitude and actually love our country, to honor them in a manner of our choosing? This is not about you..it’s about showing respect and honoring those we have lost. If you can’t cope with a glimpse of a religious symbol turn your head or see a shrink.

You cowards have gone too far this time, and yes, you’re cowards. Not a single one of you will stand up and admit you did this. A person with a modicum of decency would, though.

Shame on you. Go count your blessings like the rest of us do. One of my many blessings is I gave birth to decent humans and not heartless criminals like those behind this act of yellow bellied-suck-egg dawg cowardice.
