In April 2007, Cho Seung-Hui, 23, walked through Virginia Tech and massacred 32 people. The fear of something similar happening lingers on many college campuses yet today, and a number of people in Blacksburg are reliving the trauma as word spread about an armed man seen walking around this morning.
Three witnesses said the man had a handgun, covered with something, perhaps a towel. An alert was issued at 9:37 AM this morning telling employees and students to stay inside the buildings and secure all doors and windows.
The alert said the gunman was reported near Dietrick Hall, a three-story dining facility. The dining hall is steps away from the dorm where the first shootings took place in 2007, when a student gunman killed 32 people and then himself.
The white male was described as having light brown hair and being 6 feet tall and was walking in the direction of a volleyball court. The man was wearing a blue and white striped shirt, gray shorts and brown sandals. He had no glasses or facial hair, according to the report.
I think everyone out there is hoping and praying this is a hoax, or the three young people were simply mistaken about seeing a weapon. Either way, we’ll bring you updates on this developing story as they come in.
