As everyone has undoubtedly heard by now, Michael Jackson died today, June 25, 2009. He was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in his rented Holmby Hills mansion around 12:20 p.m. Pacific Time. While rumors and speculation swirled around his condition, the predominant rumor was that he had died of a heart attack. His brother, Jermaine Jackson, made the announcement of his death came about 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

At the height of his career, Michael Jackson was the most successful music star in the world. However, in recent years, his music had taken a back seat to his eccentricities and accusations of child molestation. He became more reclusive as time went by. He is reported to have been approximately $500 million in debt at the time of his death. His annual income was approximately $19 million per year from royalties and is said to have been worth approximately $1 Billion in assets. He was planning a comeback of sorts, scheduling a tour in the United Kingdom. Some suggest that the stress of his already frail physical condition, his debts and attempting to prepare for this comeback tour probably contributed to his death. There is also speculation that he might have been over medicated and that might have been a contributing factor to his death.

All of these questions will hopefully be answered when the investigation and autopsy are completed. Jackson’s body was flown from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, to the L.A. County Coroner’s Office late this afternoon. The Michael Jackson autopsy has been expedited and is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

There has been very little word about the whereabouts of Jackson’s children today and they haven’t been pictured. Michael Jackson leaves behind three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince ‘Blanket’ Michael Jackson II. His first two children are from his second marriage to hid dermatologist’s assistant, Debbie Rowe. His first wife was Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley.

The children have been in Michael’s exclusive custody. They haven’t had a mother in their lives, meaning they are for all intents and purposes, orphaned at this point.

The circus of the later years of Michael Jackson’s life seems to have followed him into his death. It reminds me a bit of when Anna Nicole Smith died. The vultures are circling already and everyone has used the opportunity to express how close they were to Jackson. We are likely to hear a great deal of rumor and innuendo over the coming days. We are also likely to see various people step forward to attempt to make claims on Jackson’s estate. Like Anna Nicole Smith and others, his fame resulted in him being insulated from the realities of his life. He seemed to be surrounded by ‘yes men’ and sycophants who were all too eager to give him ‘medications’ he wanted rather than telling him what he might have needed to hear. Its being said that he closed out friends who tried to give him advice on his excessive spending and lifestyle, much like Smith. I wonder if we will see a circus around the settlement of his estate as we saw those around her picking over Anna Nicole Smith’s bones.

He has been one of the most sued entertainers in history. Most of the lawsuits against him have been frivolous, while others, like the child molestation charges, have been more serious. Also, like Elvis Presley, he has died in debt after a phenomenally successful career. Hopefully, someone will step up and handle his estate in such a way that will facilitate its return to previous levels. The Michael Jackson children are still young and hopefully will have someone looking after their best interests as far as the estate and their inheritance is concerned.

There are few, if any, known Michael Jackson children photos without masks or veils covering their faces. There are very few photos of his children at all. His reclusive lifestyle apparently extended to his children. One can only imagine how this type of lifestyle has affected them. One call also only imagine what they are going through with losing their only parent while they are still so young. I hope their guardians will have their best interests at heart during this difficult time.
