Nuclear Iran?
Yesterday, President Obama gave Iran an ultimatum to come clean about their uranium enrichment and to come to an agreement about transferring the enrichment to a 3rd country in two weeks. Of course, no one with a brain in their head believed that this was going to actually come to pass, Iran hasn’t cared about what we’ve had to say in 10 years, why would they suddenly care.
Well, as it turns out, that “ultimatum” has pretty much already been thrown under the buss. The Hill reports that the administration is already back-peddaling:
A State Department spokesperson on Friday signaled the president’s mandate that Iran has two weeks to permit inspections of its recently unveiled uranium refinement plant was not “written in stone.”
“I don’t think that there’s a hard-and-fast deadline,” State Department Spokesperson Ian C. Kelley said during Friday’s press briefing, after a reporter asked what the consequences of Iran’s inaction might be.
“I think that we’ve made it quite clear this was a matter of some urgency; that we expected [Iran] to take urgent and concrete steps to open up this facility, and not only just open it up but also make sure that we were able to — or that the IAEA would be able to — talk to some of the engineers there and see documents and plans,” Kelly added.
I think exactly 0 people are surprised by this. As I’ve send countless times, this is exactly Iran’s strategy, delay, promise talks, delay, promise talks, delay, promise talks launch nuclear bomb and then be secure in the knowledge that no one will then be able to do anything about it.
So, two weeks will go by and we will be no closer to a deal with Iran then we have been in the past 5 years. Christmas will come and go and we’ll be no closer to a deal with Iran then we have been in the past 5 years. The only thing that stands between this world and a nuclear Iran is Israel. Israel can lay the hurt on Iran and, at the very least, put a big wrench in their nuclear ambitions by bombing the holy crap out of them. If they don’t do it then it’s over, because there is no way Obama is going to.
