Headley had twice traveled to Denmark in what appears to be reconnaissance trips in an effort to identify potential targets to attack. Rana is accused of aiding Headley with the travel arrangements and the government claims that he knew of Headley’s intentions to identify targets for attack.

The pair had been under surveillance for some time, and Rana’s farm in rural Illinois was raided on October 18, 2009.

According to the Chicago Tribune:

A hint of the scope of the probe first became public Oct. 18 when some 80 federal agents armed with assault weapons and supported by an armed helicopter and an airplane raided a farm owned by Rana in the small town of Kinsman, about 80 miles southwest of Chicago.

Mayor Mark Harlow said the town of 110 had never seen such a commotion. On Tuesday about 100 goats, cows and sheep at Rana’s small meat processing facility were being tended in a muddy field by a single worker who went inside before he could be questioned by a reporter.

Headley allegedly admitted his role in the plot and told authorities that he had contacts with Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani based terror group. Headley was found with videos taken during his trips to Denmark as well as video of the Newspaper building that the pair had allegedly targeted.

Rana’s alleged role in the plot was to arrange financing and arrange travel for Headley to carry out the attacks. Rana also faces up to life in prison if convicted. So, to recap, David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the two men Charged in Muhammad Cartoon revenge plot, are currently being held in a Chicago area jail, and could face up to life in prison for their roles in planning attacks against the Danish newspaper and cartoonist who drew the Muhammed cartoons, which sparked riots in France. Headley took a number of steps in an attempt to cover his tracks, but these efforts failed and he was arrested. I say throw the book at both of them if they are convicted of these crimes. Terrorists deserve nothing less than a few books thrown at them.
