Police are looking for the mother of a two headed baby in China tonight, the woman abandoned the newborn in a ditch. The baby has one fully formed head and another smaller head that has eyes, nose, mouth and ears. The baby is doing fine authorities say.

The two headed baby was abandoned in Hanzhuang, China; the baby was just hours old when it was found by authorities who had been notified of an infant crying in the middle of the night. The fact that the child survived is a miracle in itself, the ditch that it was located in was filled with mud and water.

One can only speculate as to the state of mind of the mother who abandoned the child; it happens all the time all over the world. In China, there is a huge effort to control the population as it is; perhaps the mother feared that the child would be “disposed” of anyway. The video below may shed some light on her state of mind. Still it’s no excuse. The sign in the above picture reads: “It is forbidden to discriminate against, mistreat or abandon baby girls.”

There have been stories in the past of two headed babies being born in India, Vietnam and China before. These types of birth defects are probably relatively common.

The two headed baby in China is not the first ever born, but this one is receiving worldwide attention because of the brutal way in which it was disposed of. The person who is in charge of taking care of the infant says that it is perfectly healthy despite the second head. I’m not exactly sure what the punishment would be when and if they find the woman responsible.
