Police in San Diego California are investigating San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie for Assault with a deadly weapon. The Antonio Cromartie assault investigation is underway due to allegations that the Chargers player was involved in a champagne bottle assault. Cromartie allegedly hit a man in the head with a champagne bottle while celebrating the teams win over the Denver Broncos.

Below you will read more details about the story and see video highlights from what Cromartie has done on the field.

The San Diego Chargers played their division rivals the Denver Broncos on Sunday and after an absolute beat-down of the Broncos some of the members of the team decided to go out on Sunday and celebrate. Media outlets are quoting a San Diego police detective with the following:

Detective Gary Hassen said officers answered a report of a fight at Bar West in Pacific Beach shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Now, I know that I’m not a professional football player, or anywhere close to it, but I would think that after spending a couple hours throwing my body around a football field for a couple of hours the last thing I would want to do is go to a bar that night. Like I said, I’m not a professional athlete, but I just don’t understand why Cromartie was there in the first place. It was 1:30 in the morning after a game. Don’t these guys have practice, or is Monday an off day?

During the celebration some of the Chargers players began spraying champagne around the bar. That’s when the alleged victim claims that Cromartie hit him over the head with a bottle. You can see a photo of the alleged victim’s injuries here.

Cromartie posted the following on his Twitter account:

“I want to apologize to charger nation and my fans. There’s sum stuff out abt me that’s not true. It will come out. God Bless.”

The team has not officially commented on the story or the allegations, but they said they are aware of the situation. Cromartie is claiming that the bottle slipped from his hand and that he did not intentionally hit the victim over the the head. Although hard to believe, I think that this explanation actually makes more sense to me than if Cromartie, out of the blue, cracked someone over the head with a champagne bottle for no reason. I could be wrong, but unless this guy is a complete sociopath there isn’t a good reason, that I can think of, for Cromartie to smack a guy over the head with a bottle unprovoked.

The Antonio Cromartie assault investigation continues as of Monday evening. It appears that the Chargers Player champagne bottle assault may turn out to be nothing, but if he really did just smack a guy up the side of his head for no reason then I believe that he should go to jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. What do you all think?
